I’ve been doing this for almost 30 years and have run into our share of horses (all with good results) as I always work with the horsemen to make it as least obtrusive as possible, you see I have an assistant with me on the trails that will usually ride point (ride ahead of me) to see if there is anyone or anything we need to be aware of before we approach. Some of the trails are multi-use trails, so just like people walking dogs or doing sports with dogs as we are, all have to be aware and considerate of other users… horsemen must use the same approach if it’s not a horse only area and I’m sure they understand this! Also, keep in mind what I’m riding is classified as a recumbent bike/trike and is in spec for trail use according to its size measurements, so others are out there on the same exact bike/trike maybe not with four dogs but there are some that have one or two dogs on a similar design like I ride! I live in Maryland (Horse Country, Preakness etc…), so horses are all around us, and I have a friend that actually has a boarding facility with one of the last remaining regulation horse tracks that are privately owned in the area. I’ve had previous generations of my sled dogs out there, trotting with some Belgians, because the owner of the Belgians wanted to get some footage with my dogs and some experience for their horses with the dogs as well… It was the most incredible experience, you can see it below!
